WHEN: Sat. May 16th, 2015
We are exited to bring 3 incredible races to the Sunset Beach area on May 16th, 2015. We will start off with the half marathon at 7:00 A.M. Once we kick off with the half marathon, we will head over to the beach where our 1 mile racers will enjoy a fun beach run. We will finish off our race series with the Kindred 5K back on the road at 8:00 A.M. The Kindred 5K and Sunset Beach Half Marathon will both start and finish at the same place on Main St. by the pier.

1 Mile Turtle Trot – No time limit so take your time.
Kindred 5K – 60 min. time limit so about 20 minute miles. (15 min. miles is a fast walk)
Half Marathon – 3hr. 30min time limit so roughly 16 minute miles. Plenty of opportunity to walk in the race and enjoy the scenery.
The 1 mile walk/jog is 100% on the beach. Even at low tide, I can’t guarantee how well this will work out with a jogging stroller. However, this is the race with the fewest number of participants so far and I’ve certainly taken a jogging stroller out on Sunset Beach myself so there shouldn’t be any issues here.
The 5K starts and ends on the road but the majority of the race is again on the beach going out to the Kindred Spirit. You will definitely go through some softer sand and across public access areas. If you’re not in a hurry to finish, I might recommend this as the event to try. There’s really no time limit and will be a lot of fun.
The 1/2 marathon is the only one not on the sand, however, it goes over the Sunset Beach bridge and against traffic (on the side of the road) on 179 and 904 for a couple of miles. I would personally not recommend taking a stroller on these roads.
I don’t want to keep you from coming because we’re trying to do everything we can to make the entire event (races and after party) family friendly. If you do decide to bring a jogging stroller, especially on the 5K or 1/2, I’d ask that you start toward the back to avoid any potential injuries and allow some of the runners going for a fast time to get out in front.
