The Calabash Turkey Trot takes place through Calabash North Carolina on Thanksgiving Day every year. This year on 11/25, it will be the 7th Annual Turkey Trot with around 1200 participants between 7am – 9:30am so we wanted to share all of the race day details publicly. The 1 mile is sold out but there are spots available in the 5K & 10K as well as the 3 race challenge.
4am – 6am: Coastal Race Productions Staff will be setting up course and cones.
5:30 – 6:30: Participants arrive to park.
7:00 am: 10K Starts
8:30 am: 5K Starts
9:15 am: 1 Mile Starts
10:00 am: We will have awards, coffee & cider, pumpkin pie & a costume contest in the parking lot of Captain John’s on race day.
All parking for participants is in parking lots down near the river off of River Rd. where we’ve received property owner permission only. Official parking maps are sent to participants via email leading up to the race and managed by staff and volunteers race day.

A 10K is 6.2 miles. Participants start down on Oak St. run up River Rd. which should be shut down for less than 10 minutes and they take an immediate right onto Beach Dr. Participants will be in the Northbound lane until Thomasboro Rd, then move to the center lane until High Point Rd. Participants run through Calabash Lakes and come back out onto Beach Dr. at Wilson Ave. Then they run through Kingfish Bay before heading back to the finish on Oak St. in the Angus parking lot.

A 5K is 3.1 miles. Participants start down on Oak St. run up Riverview Dr. which should be shut down for less than 10 minutes and they take an immediate right onto Beach Dr. Participants will be in the center lane until they run through Kingfish Bay. From here, participants head back to the finish on Oak St. in Captain John’s parking lot.

In the 1 Mile, participants start down on Oak St. run up Riverview Dr. which should be shut down for less than 10 minutes and they take an immediate right onto Beach Dr. Participants will be in northbound lane and take an immediate right onto Lake Dr. as they head back to the finish on Oak St. in Captain John’s parking lot.

There will be minimal impact to residents during the event on Thanksgiving Day from 7am – 9am. We will have Brunswick County Sheriff’s on-site, volunteers and staff directing both vehicles and participants to avoid any confusion.
- Southbound traffic coming from Sunset Beach & OIB on Georgetown Rd. toward SC will not be impacted at all.
- Southbound traffic coming from Calabash & Carolina Shores on Thomasboro Rd. toward SC will not be impacted at all.
- Northbound traffic coming from SC toward Sunset Beach & OIB on Beach Dr. will be detoured up Thomasboro Rd. to Clariday where you can go to Hwy 17 or down Clariday to Georgetown Rd. or 179 toward Sunset Beach with no further impact. PLEASE DO NOT CUT THROUGH: Persimmon, Wilson or Charlotte – you will just be redirected back South and onto Thomasboro Rd.
For Kingfish Bay Residents, they have been sent more details. Between 7am – 9am, you will only be able to take a left onto Beach Dr. and will follow this short detour if you need to turn right.
