For those that participated in the Run Sunset Beach Half Marathon 2018 you know ALL about running in the rain!  But I thought I’d include some of my best tips for making those rainy day miles more bearable.  I strongly suggest layering up!  This is your best chance a keeping the clothing closest to you as dry as possible.  Make sure you have on wicking or performance wear and NO cotton.  I also highly recommend compression wear as your base layer.  I’m not 100% sure why but water makes everything stick so the least amount of movement you can have the less chafing you will end up with.  Consider throwing on a hat – I don”t usually run with one but on a rainy day it sure helps especially if you wear glasses or contacts. You will also want to protect your electronic devices.  Whether it is your tracker, phone or earbuds certain brands can only take so much water.  I personally place my phone in a ziplock bag and leave my earbuds at home.  This allows me to pay better attention to what is going on around me in more hazardous conditions.  I was once told there is NO bad weather for running just poorly selected clothing.  After training endlessly in the rain this past year – I’d have to agree!  Now if you’re like me – register for a (this) race, lace up your shoes and go for a run!  🙂
